Structured Workplace Learning
Career Advice Australia’s Structured Workplace Learning program aims to make it easier for industry and business to provide students with structured learning opportunities in real or simulated work environments.
A work placement involves a business taking on, training and mentoring students. It provides students with a broad understanding of the world of work and gives them a chance to develop their technical skills and general employability skills.
In many cases, students are also given the opportunity to gain recognised qualifications while they train and learn. Employers and learning institutions conduct a skills assessment at the conclusion of the work placement, which allows students to achieve nationally recognised competencies.
Many schools throughout Australia offer Structured Workplace Learning to help their students make a smooth transition from school to post-school life. An increasing number of businesses across Australia are getting involved in the program as they recognise the benefits of helping young Australians to prepare for their move to the workforce.
The role of the Local Community Partnership is to bring together industry and educators, and to help them develop a good quality work placement model that recognises the local situation, builds on current practice and streamlines workplace learning.
Businesses participating in the Structured Workplace Learning program are playing a vital role in building the workforce of tomorrow. Contact your Local Community Partnership to find out how you can get involved.
