The direct route

Around 30 per cent of students go straight from school to university. To do that successfully, they first need to know all about the university—the range of its courses and at which campuses they’re offered—and its course requirements—what year 11 and year 12 subjects they should do. They should consider the cost of university study and the cost of living, as well as opportunities for work after graduation.

Alternative pathways to university

It’s possible to pursue the university option without taking the direct route. Alternative pathways include transferring from recognised vocational and technical education studies, or undertaking bridging or foundation programs, which help to prepare students for university courses. Studying by distance education through a university or Open Learning Australia is another way to get to university.
