Australian Career Development Studies

As part of the Career Advice Australia initiative, a new Certificate IV for career development practitioners is on its way. The Community Services and Health Industry Skills Council is currently developing the competency framework, which they expect to complete by early 2007. The Certificate IV will complement the existing Australian Career Development Studies.

Australian Career Development Studies is a professional development package to enhance the skills of professional career practitioners and others (teachers and parents) who want to know more about career development. The multi-level resource enables self-paced learning.

It is comprised of three components.

  • Awareness of Career Development is an introductory program for anyone wanting to learn the basics. This component is aimed at parents, community leaders, coaches, youth workers and anyone else who works with young people or has an interest in career development.
  • Elements of Career Service Delivery comprises three nationally endorsed units at Australian Qualifications Frameworks Certificate IV level. It is for Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations contractors and other career practitioners.
  • Career Development Studies is an accredited unit at post-graduate certificate level. It can be counted toward any graduate certificate or graduate diploma at any participating university. Other universities can decide to accept the unit for advanced standing toward other graduate qualifications.
  • The Australian Career Development Studies package is free, but there is a cost for assessment. This cost depends on the institution that conducts the assessment.
